What a fall cleanup in St. Catharines actually covers
A fall cleanup is the yard put to bed for winter: leaves off the lawn and out of the beds, perennials cut back, gutters emptied, and everything hauled away in the same visit. It is for any St. Catharines home where the leaves come down faster than anyone in the house wants to deal with them.
Here is the part most people don't expect. The leaves are the visible job; the rest is what stops you from doing it again in April. Beds left full of wet leaves and dead stems go into winter as a mat, and that mat is what you're pulling apart in spring. Gutters packed with leaves overflow onto the foundation in the first November rain and then freeze. So we do the whole set, not just the raking.
Why leaves are a bigger job in St. Catharines than they look
Two reasons, and neither is your fault. The first is the trees. St. Catharines sits at about 22% tree canopy by the Region's own measurement, up from 15–17% in 2011, and the City's Urban Forestry Management Plan is designed to push that higher. More canopy every year means more leaves every fall.
The second is how the Region collects them. Niagara Region picks up leaf and yard waste weekly, all year, with no bag limit — but only in paper bags or certified compostable ones (the tinted plastic "leaf" bags get left at the curb), out by 7 a.m. on your collection day, twigs no thicker than 1.5 cm. Branches only go on the regular truck for four weeks in the fall, 26 October to 20 November this year, tied in bundles under 22.7 kg. There is no rake-it-to-the-curb pickup in St. Catharines. And the City warns that a catch-basin cover at the curb blocked with leaves leads to flooding.
Our haul-away means none of that is your Saturday. No bags to buy, nothing to drag out at dawn, no bundle that's over the weight limit. It leaves on our truck. Do you spray for weeds or treat anything while you're there?
A cleanup doesn't include spraying or treatments. It's leaves, beds, cut-backs, gutters and haul-away. Feeding the lawn is a separate service, the fertilizer program.
Is it one visit or several?
Depends on your trees. A property with one big drop is usually one visit after it. Early and late trees together may mean two. We tell you which when we quote, and the quote covers it.
