The brief was a real putting surface, not a novelty. So it got shaped and staked to contour before a single blade of grass went down — that is the stage in the first photo, and it is the one that decides whether a green is worth putting on.

Then turf, rolled in tight and taped off while it knitted. Then cut low, with a collar of longer grass left around the outside so the edge reads as a green rather than a patch of short lawn.

This one started tired: an old tree at the end of its life, beds along the fence that had gone feral, and grass that had long since stopped competing with either.

The tree came down, the beds came out, and the whole yard went back to bare soil and got re-graded before any sod arrived. The cedar hedge and the fence line are your landmarks — they are the only things in the last photo that were there in the first one.
