What a spring cleanup in Thorold covers
Spring isn't a fixed list the way fall is, because every yard comes out of winter differently. An older lot in Thorold proper under mature trees comes out with a matted layer of leaves that arrived after the fall cleanup; a newer lot in Rolling Meadows comes out with thin patches where the snow sat and beds that need edging before anything else. So a spring cleanup is put together for the property. What a Thorold winter leaves behind
Because we're based here, we see it every year. Thorold has more trees than most people expect — the Region's canopy survey puts the city at about 27% cover, higher than St. Catharines or Niagara-on-the-Lake — and trees that drop in November don't stop when the fall cleanup is done. Most yards go into winter with a second, thinner layer that the wind puts into corners, against fences and under the hedge. Under snow, it mats. Come April, it's the first thing to come out, because grass under it stays yellow until it does.
How the Region collects in spring. Niagara Region picks up leaf and yard waste weekly, all year, unlimited bags, but only in paper or certified-compostable bags, at the curb by 7 a.m. Branches and hedge cuttings go on the regular truck for four weeks each spring, tied in bundles under 22.7 kg (the Region publishes the dates each year). There is no rake-to-the-curb pickup in Thorold. With our haul-away, none of that is your problem — it goes on our truck and we deal with it. Early February, for spring 2027. Get on the list any time before that by sending the form or calling 905-401-7600, and we come back to everyone on the list in February to set a date.
Which parts of Thorold do you cover?
All of it. Thorold proper, Rolling Meadows and the newer subdivisions, Port Robinson, and anything else with a Thorold address. We're based on Broderick Ave, so nothing in the city is far.
What's the difference between this and a fall cleanup?
Fall is a fixed list on every property: leaves, beds, cut-backs, gutters, haul-away. Spring is built around what winter did to your yard, so it can include debris cleanup, beds, pruning, overseeding and gutters, and we decide which after looking.
Do you take everything away?
Yes. Haul-away is part of every cleanup. No paper bags, no bundles at the curb, nothing waiting for the Region's truck.
Do you spray for weeds or apply anything?
A cleanup doesn't include spraying or treatments. Feeding the lawn is a separate service, the fertilizer program, and it usually starts right after the cleanup.
Can you overseed the thin patches?
Yes, and spring is the right time for it. We use the same seed as on our seeding jobs. If the soil isn't warm enough on cleanup day, the seed goes down on a second visit.
